My blog is called Ginas Corner Crafts, because that is my store on Etsy, for those of you, whom this is the first time to read one of my blogs.
I don't just blog about my shop though, and blogging is a new adventure for me.
I like to blog about things I find interesting, or funny,or to remind myself of things I am trying to learn or accept.
I am originally from La/Ms area, but I lived in the Northwest for over 17yrs and it felt like home.
I moved to Ky 6yrs ago, for various reasons..one being my Mother was in bad health, and I was trying to get closer to her in case she needed me.
In these 6yrs, I still "Yearn" to go back to where I feel is home.. "The beautiful Northwest"
I can not do this at the time and I have been trying to learn acceptance.
I am trying to find the beauty in where I am, and truthfully Ky does have some pretty scenery.
I guess I just keep measuring it by Idaho and Oregon, and it will never compare to either.
There is a lot of things in the Northwest, I can not do here.
I am trying to get my "Pencil Shaving Flowers" back on the selling market. Here where I live, there are no towns close by with craft stores, where I sold my flowers before. There are no nearby craft shows..
So, I put them in an Etsy shop Ginascornercrafts.etsy.com
In the mean time I am trying to be thankful and enjoy the beauty that IS around me at this time in my life.
One thing about life is.. "It always changes"
Today, we took a short ride and I took pictures of some Ky scenery..
This is on the way to Ky River Campground, which is only about 20miles from my house.
I love these creeks with the clear water, and I was surprised to find one this close to me. I can't get out and "walk the creek" like I would like to though. My husband parked the car on the side of the road ,I got out of the car, and a car came around a curve and almost ran me down..
This is a rock formation in the Cove Springs Park here where I live. This is the first time we have been here, and it was so close to us!
This lovely picture is overlooking the town where I live, at the same park. One of my favorite things to do is find a high spot and overlook what is around me.
These are just the pictures we took today on the short ride.
Tomorrow for Memorial Day I hope to take a longer ride and find more pretty scenery.
I might not be able to move back to my beloved Northwest at this moment in time, but I will continue to find the beauty around me.

When you travel do you notice all the unusual signs on the side of the road, or in front of business?
I always have and I love to see what others have found and posted during their travels.
My husband is a photographer, or rather he was, so I get him to take the pictures for me now.
I also love nature pictures, and I have a lot of those. I might share some at a later date. We have been taking pictures lately of old barns on the back roads where I live
I don't have pictures of the signs I have taken on my computer, so I thought I would find some others have taken on their travels.
I just thought it would be a fun thing to do, so here are some of the ones I like best.

Apparently NOT.
So, I will continue to try to learn until my brain starts to burn.
Today on the Promotional Frenzy Team social networking seemed to be the topic between the members.
I have never used any of these sites, until I joined Etsy, and learned it seems to be necessary to get your shop and information out into the "Cyber World" to be noticed.
I honestly don't know what I expected. I guess just to open a shop, and BAM customers would come running to buy HA HA.. "The jokes on me"
I actually do enjoy learning all this, and I love doing my crafts and trying to sell on Etsy.

You know the saying " It takes a village to raise a child". In a sense this is true.
When it comes to our children here in the U.S there seems to be a lot missing daily at an alarming rate.
So, what can we do as a village?
School has started and I started thinking how sad it is, that we can't feel as safe as we use to , when I or even my kids were in school..Bombings, Killings, Threats, Kidnappings
There are Tv Ads now that teach you to "teach" your children. We all need to pay heed.
Whether we have kids or grand kids, we need to teach them at a very early age what to watch out for.
Tell them that no matter WHAT, if a stranger comes up to them, to even ask if they can help find their "Lost Puppy" Don't do it. This is one ploy that seems to work with children.
Tell your kids, if someone other than your parents come to school to take you away. Don't Go, unless your parents has told you before hand.
Parents need to make sure when their children start school, that a list is made to take of who is allowed to get their children from school. If someone comes to the school, and they aren't on that list.. Don't let that child go. It's better to be a little inconvenienced, and to be safe than sorry.
My husband is a "Forensic CSI and Latent Fingerprint Examiner, and he feels every child should be fingerprinted.
The first 24-48 hours are the most critical to find a missing child
My kids are grown now, but I have a daughter that is living alone in Oregon.
Even grown you need to be aware at all times of your surroundings, especially when out in a park or even shopping. I think it would be great if all teenagers would take a class of "self defense"
I feel fairly safe where I live now, but If I go out walking by myself in a park, I am always looking to see who is around.
When we go out in public we can also pay attention to the kids and who they are with. Does any of them look frightened, does something seem to be out of place with the person they are with?
There was a report on TV about some of our kids in the malls being taken into the bathroom and raped. That is SO scary! Here we all are in a mall full of people and not one of us notices?
We need to always always watch what our children are doing on the internet. Predators are always there looking for an unsupervised child or teenager.
Some of our teen age girls are being abducted and sold out for prostitution. Seem too far fetched? Well, it's not! I actually know someone that happened to. Thankfully she finally escaped with her life intact.
We need to warn our dating teenagers about being aware at parties. Drugs are slipped to them when they least expect it. I have two women in my family this happened to when they were dating. One was raped, and the other one, it did something permanently to her mental state.
The world can be a scary place. Please, let's do what we can to help our children, grand children, friends children, or even neighborhood children. We can "Warn" them of the possible dangers.
We don't want them to be frightened all the time, but we DO want them to be aware.
You can look online and find a sexual predator by going to your state's "Sexual Offender Registry".
It will show you where they live. You can even type in your address, and it will tell you if there is one living close to you. I did this, and I was shocked to find there were two, just living down the street from me!

I'm sure all of you have heard of, or watch the TV Show "America's Got Talent" I adore this show and I never miss it. This Season's show is on now.
This year has some really awesome talent, or I think so. The best part is you can vote for your favorite act after the judges have picked the one's they think are worthy to go through.
Well, I want to tell you.. Etsy's Got Talent!
They aren't the same kind of talent that you will see on a show, but you can find them on Etsy.
There are some amazing artist on Etsy! Everyone loves handmade, especially to give as gifts. It adds a more special touch to the gift to know someone took the time and the thought into making it.
I have wrote about the team I am on before, but this team has amazing artist, which covers just about any category of handmade.
I have my favorites of course, but they all deserve to be seen and appreciated for their talent.

My shop is Gina's Corner Crafts. I have been, and am going to be adding new items to my shop especially for the up coming holidays.
I create hand turned flowers from pencil shavings. This is a very time consuming process, so I also have vintage items to sell, in between the times I am making flowers.
I sold my flowers in the crafts stores in Oregon when I lived in the Northwest. I did very well with them there, but Etsy is the first time I've tried to sell them online.
I know you can't see how sturdy they really are, but I put a lot of work into making sure they will last you for years. I tested them myself by putting them out in the Winter on a patio in the Northwest. We are talking about "real winters" there. The snow and wind blowed on them, and they even had ice collect on their petals. To my surprise and pleasure when spring rolled around, they were still just as sturdy and the colors just as vibrant as when I first made them!
The pictures don't do these flowers justice either. They don't really show all the intricate designs of how I hand turn them, or how I choose more than one color and blend them together, to make a bigger flower of multi colors. I have looked to see if I could find any that someone else has made, but so far I haven't found any more pencil shaving flowers.
I assure you when you order some of my flowers, you will be very pleased though.

I'm telling you folks.. "Etsy's Got Talent"
I'm sure we all have people who we look up to, or have looked up to in this life. People who aspire us, who seem to have a lasting affect on our memories.
I have at least two of these people that brought so much to my life.
Today is one of their birthdays. She would have been 57 today.
She is my cousin, Charlotte, who had muscle dystrophy.
She was the same age as I , we were like sisters, and since I didn't have a sister she became my sister also, not only my cousin.
Our Mother's were sisters and they were both pregnant with us at the same time. My Mother had a 2month jump on my aunt. My birthday was in May and Charlotte's in July of the same year.
When Charlotte was around 4-5 yrs old she started falling down a lot. My aunt and uncle took her to a specialist,which started a long line of test and operations. At that time the medical field didn't know what exactly was wrong with her, for that was around 1960.
When we started school Charlotte was in braces, and I would hold one side of her while we walked. I stayed in at recess with her, because she couldn't go out and play like the other kids. She would stand at the window and watch them.
Charlotte was amazing! I admired her so much that I never felt sorry for her as she got older.
I would pick her up and we would go shopping together, we went to the movies, we did everything together.
If people stared at her in her wheelchair while we were shopping, I would just start pushing her really fast down the aisles, running down anyone in our way and she would laugh. I only wanted to make her laugh, and give her enjoyment.
She was very smart and made better grades in school than I. She didn't have to study much to get an A, where I had to study my butt off to get a B or C.
When we were in the 4th-5th grades, I sat behind her and when we were having a test, she would slide her paper over when I didn't know an answer for me to see.. I KNOW.. We shouldn't have been cheating lol.
If she was feeling ornery that day she wouldn't let me look..(fond memories)
Around the age of 17 Charlotte met this boy, that she was crazy about. He started coming over and staying a lot and just hanging around. She found herself pregnant and he asked my uncle if he could marry her.
She had such a hard time carrying her son. She couldn't walk for exercise. But, you know what she COULD do? She could swim... I would watch her in amazement when they put her in the water. She would be half way on top and half way on bottom of the water, and she swam like nothing I'd ever seen before. She made motions like a frog swimming. Another thing I admired since I couldn't swim at all!
When she got very far along in her pregnancy she wasn't able to swim, so she didn't get any exercise.
When Christopher was born, she refused to let anyone help her any more than was needed. She fed him, she changed his diaper, and they would put him in his little tub on the table so she could bathe him.
Around 6yrs later she had another child, Kailee. She went down fast after Kailee was born. Her lung collapsed and her fingers were drawn in so bad she couldn't do as much for her as she did for Christopher. (Unfortunately, Kailee also has muscle dystrophy, and is now in a wheelchair.)
But, once again she amazed me. She would put a pencil in her mouth and draw! Her drawings were truly a work of art. She drew this huge life like Senorita with such detail. She had her hanging in her bedroom, and when I visited, I would just stand and stare at what she had created.
I wish we could had Charlotte noticed then, but we didn't have all the social media's as we do now. I am sure all the networks would have her on their shows.
She had a few attorneys and Dr's from our hometown buy her drawings. They had a hard time believing she had drawn with a pencil in her mouth.
I watched her draw, and once again she did something that I couldn't do, and wished I could.
My admiration went up more for this talented, strong willed cousin of mine.
Her husband found someone else, and left Charlotte, when Kailee was about 2yrs old and it seemed to break her totally. He told her he wanted someone he could dance with. JERK!
Her health got worse, and there were days she wouldn't talk to anyone not even me.
She left us and went to the Lord around 7yrs ago, where I am sure she is free from all pain, and is dancing now.
I believe these special souls are put here for us to learn from. We can watch and learn how to be brave and strong, even in the worst times of our lives..
Charlotte today on your birthday.. I want you to know I admire you and love you, and you have always been, and will always be an inspiration to me and my hero!
This is Charlotte holding my oldest daughter. She would ride her around in her wheelchair, and every time we went to visit, she would beg for a ride.

Kailee turned out to be as intelligent as her Mother, and she graduated.
She is also married now, and I wish her the best in life

What a boring world it would be if everyone were just like me or you.
